Solid treatment for a new steel industry
2001 - 2002
vhp consulting
Fundia Nedstaal, one of Europe’s largest producers of long steel products, started in 2002 with the construction of a new production line. vhp ergonomics supported this project with advice and recommendations for the setting up and planning of several components through intensive collaboration with several experts such as design team, production manager and employees. The first step was judging the plan, followed by the reconstruction of critical working units in full scale.
During the process, recommendations were given on different levels. For example about the division of tasks between men and machines (automation of a specific working process), about the logistic process (logical order of operation, accessibility, efficiency), concerning work organisation (work speed, task rotation, setting up working procedures), the workplace (working height, ranges, machine security), environmental issues (machine insulation, climate measures) and training and instruction of employees about the production line.
After the new production line came into use production has considerably increased. Employees can work more efficiently and more safe and they enjoy their work more. All targets are realised according to the client. The investment has been worth it.
