Description:

The Port of Rotterdam is carrying out a master plan for modernisation of the control posts of all bridges and locks they manage. It involves five control posts from which bridges are operated and two posts from which both bridges and locks are operated. vhp ergonomics made new designs for all these posts. The control post at the “Hoge Brug” was one of the first to be completed. From this post two bridges are controlled. In busy times two employees work on the post. each controlling one bridge. In quieter times both bridges are controlled by one employee. The lay out of the old post did not meet present requirements. Bottlenecks were among others insufficient view on the bridge and on the camera monitors. which where placed against the ceiling. Also the design of the control desk had become obsolete and there was some constructional inferiority. This applied particularly to the pantry and the sanitary block. Therefore it has been decided to modernise the complete post. for which vhp ergonomics made the design. Characteristics of the new situation are:

  • New desks with electric altitude adaptation so the bridge guard can work at the correct height; li>
  • The desks have been turned to improve the direct view on one of the two bridges
  • The camera monitors have been carried out as TFT monitors and placed on an ergonomic correct position
  • The pantry and the sanitary block have been renovated completely.
  • New lighting. climate control and brise-soleil have been introduced.Since June 2002 the new control post is in use. The bridge guards and the Port of Rotterdam have a post they can be proud of.
